How To Make Natural Makeup Brush Cleaner

Makeup brush cleansers can be so expensive, and so harsh!  But did you know you can make your own natural, high-quality makeup brush cleaning solution for pennies on the dollar?  The secret ingredient: tea tree essential oil.  Tea tree essential oil is widely known for its healing & cleansing properties, and is used for anything from bug bites to sunburns, to natural cleaners.  Today, we're going over how to do this in your own home.  Here's what you'll need:
  • distilled water (you can get a 1 gallon jug for about $1)
  • tea tree essential oil (I recommend going organic)
  • some sort of container; I like a small bottle with a spray/spritzer top (you could easily reuse one you already have)
  • grapefruit seed extract, which acts as a natural preservative
Once you have sanitized your container and sprayer top, all you have to do is add 10-20 drops of the tea tree essential oil, depending on how large your container is, add 3-5 drops of the GSE, then fill with the distilled water.  Put the top on, give it a shape to keep everything mixed up, and voila!  You have a safe, natural, homemade and very affordable cleaning solution for your makeup brushes.  And it only took about 3 minutes to do.  As this is natural and doesn't contain chemicals designed to keep the solution from separating (oil and water), I recommend giving it a little shake before each use.  I keep mine in my bathroom cabinet, and use it every couple of days on my brushes to avoid bacteria.
